Copper futures prices fell by 0.76% to Rs 410.75 per kg today due to weak trend in the overseas market in tandem with profit-booking by speculators after recent gains. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February lost Rs 3.15, or 0.76%, to Rs 410.75 per kg, with a trading volume of 7,962 lots. April copper shed Rs 3.10, or 0.74%, to Rs 414.55 per kg, with a trading volume of 586 lots. Analysts said apart from profit-booking by speculators, a weakening trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME) on worries that the European sovereign-debt crisis may slow global economic growth and damp demand for the industrial metals. Copper futures recovered by 0.56% to Rs 413.90 per kg today

Buoyed by a firming trend overseas and pick-up in spot demand, copper futures recovered by 0.56% to Rs 413.90 per kg today. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, April copper rose by Rs 2.30, or 0.56%, to Rs 413.90 per kg, with a business volume of 163 lots. The February delivery in February gained Rs 2.25, or 0.55%, to Rs 407.05 per kg, with a trade turnover of 2,236 lots. Copper for three-month delivery shot up by 0.5% to $7,446 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange (LME), while at Shanghai Futures Exchange gained 1.5% to 54,570 yuan ($8,611) per tonne. Copper prices rose by Rs 2.65 to Rs 406.60 per kg in futures trade today

Buoyed by a firming global trend, copper prices rose by Rs 2.65 to Rs 406.60 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions. The trading sentiment in copper improved after prices of the metal rose in global markets on the back of better-than-expected US data that gave a boost to hopes that a recovery in the world’s second-largest consumer will support demand for the metal. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, April copper rose by Rs 2.65, or 0.66%, to Rs 406.60 per kg, with a business turnover of 171 lots.
